Bob:
Thanks for the words of encouragement my friend.

TomAugust 17, 2014 at 2:39 pm #54476I pick up a loupe for everything now, my eyesight just aint what it used to be and as Bob says, depth perception goes out of the window when using one eye but I have noticed your brain learns and adjusts a little, the more you do it, the easier it gets and now I only stuff my tweezers into a hairspring maybe 3 times out of 20 when it used to be every time
September 16, 2014 at 3:47 am #54477Hey Tom, I’m a little late to the party, but David’s comment on the mill brought me here
Nice setup buddy, and the good thing about having a smaller space is the cost saving factor, big space, you need to fill it with more stuff 😆
Looks really nice, you’ve done a great job and have a nice area in which to work.

Chris:
I already expanded into my garage but I still keep the sensitive stuff inside. I’ve setup a soldering station out there, a grinding station, and I’m working on a buffing station. If’n I ever gets me a big lathe, it’s goin’ out there too.
Thanks!

I finally got everything together that I need to set up a soldering area in my garage. Here are a few shots…

Do you have a preference for a pickling solution? A Youtube video suggested one cup of vinegar to one teaspoon of salt. Another video suggested acid.

I bought some Black Magic pickle which is supposed to be safe. It comes in a gallon jug to which you just add water.
I don’t have a preference yet.

I have so many hunter pocket watch cases with busted hinge solder joints, that I figure its only gonna’ keep happening in the future. Plus… if I ever wake up insane and decide to try my hand at case making, then I might as well have the right tools. If by chance I blow myself while learning this, then it’s been nice knowing ya’ and I promise I’ll blow myself up REAL good. I’ve never been one to adopt half measures.

Sorry for the confusion.

March 18, 2015 at 7:40 pm #54489Tom,
I just noticed the picture of the flash supressors. Are they configured to flow in the proper direction? The Smith’s little torch has female connedtions on the hose while most torch handpieces have male connections.
