Sorry Mike 😳 hey….I forget my name half the time too
…. you can make one of those, doesnt have to be anything fancy…I found those tools in a box of watchmakers stuff I bought long ago. have fun, WilliamAugust 30, 2014 at 5:56 am #59109Im working on a tool to get that jewel out, but in the meantime I found one on Ebay for cheap. but im not giving up on the jewel just yet.
August 30, 2014 at 6:13 am #59110Great info William. I like the tools and wonder where a guy could find those jewels. Wonder if a seitz jewel would work? Just thinking out loud.
August 30, 2014 at 12:24 pm #59111I did note that on the jewel the OD is .065 and the ID is .011… I haven’t had a chance to search jewels

Hey Bernie, does smoke come out of your ears like it does mine when I am thinking.

I think the trick would be to at least find the same size ID, could make a sleeve if too small OD or ream out a bit if one had a larger OD. BUT if you had …. I would think 🙄 …..uuuhhhooohhh starting to smoke……a hole diameter of around the original size, that would also work, you would just have to fit a different size wire and replace both the top and bottom jewels. I am not sure what the limits would be for sizes but I think……uuuhhhhooooohhhh……….it would be rather forgiving and still run accurately in a fair range of sizes, with more friction on the larger sizes and less strength on the smaller ones. hope that makes sense.

I dont see why not….I have not looked yet but I wonder what some of the alarm clocks have for jewel sizes?…in the end it may be worth getting a couple of mucked up balances for a future issue like this.
WilliamAugust 30, 2014 at 4:11 pm #59113My wife says she smells wood burning when I think. 😆
September 1, 2014 at 4:37 pm #59114ive been messing with the jewel for awhile now and it doesn’t seem to get any looser,,, with the tool im creating it seems to be cutting more than rolling which is fine with this balance,, but I think it mite ruin the good balance.. either way its not going easy with home made tooling.
September 1, 2014 at 7:58 pm #59115Hey Mike,
I wish I could add some ideas but you guys are blazing a new trail here!
I’m enjoying this thread a bunch and hope you figure out a solution and post it up here for all of us.Bernie,
Your wife is being kind. What my wife tells me I have for brains wouldn’t smell anything like wood when it burns.
