Well I have been going back and forth to the doctors after a month they have figured out I have a tremor in my index finger and thumb on my left hand. Just those two fingers. I was scared and feared I had the onset of parkinsons but after test it is not. They said it may not get any worse but it has no cure or medicene. Don’t ask me the name because I can’t pronounce or spell it. Anyway I have been having a terrible time working on my watches. Small items make it hard to hold on with the left hand and I have bent a couple of pivots and broke a balance staff. Anyway I have gotten them all fixed and those will probably be the last I do.
So I guess the gist of this is I have watch repair tools for sale. I will only sell them as a whole unit. I also have some rare parts books and a half dozen pocket watches (with new mainsprings and I think staffs for them) that will go with the tools. So for anyone getting started this would be a excellent start. I had just bought a new set of screwdrivers and tweezers that I hadn’t even used. It pains me to let them go but I don’t want them to sit there for years and then have the kids sell them for $50 at a auction.
So if anyone is interested in the tools, books, and pocket watches contact Bob and he will get you my e-mail. As I said I am only going to sell all as one unit. Thanks.
December 19, 2015 at 6:30 am #63493Hey Bernie sorry to hear about the tremor but very good to know it’s nothing too serious.
Sounds like you’re offering a great opportunity to someone wanting to get set up fast. Yes, anyone interested please contact me for Bernie’s contact info.Take care Bernie,
BobDecember 19, 2015 at 7:25 am #63494Thanks Bob. Yes I am saddened that this has happened but with age comes trials as my grandmother would say. I can still do clocks fairly well and some days are better than others. If I have a day when it frustrates me I just go do something else such as my woodworking which so far hasn’t affected it or do a little hamming. It is just the fine little stuff so far that it has affected and gets so frustrating when I can’t get something together. Small 0 size, etc are just out. I have a list put together of all I have. It would get someone started quickly and would save them from looking for tools and some of the manuals I have by Swigart, Waltham, Elgin, C E Marshall, etc are getting almost impossible to find.
December 19, 2015 at 9:24 am #63495Hey Bernie,
sorry to hear that you will be stepping away from watches but at least now you wont spend so much time in the “Swiss” position
Hope you have a great christmas my friend
Paul.December 19, 2015 at 12:02 pm #63496Thanks Paul. I still will assume that postion on occasions even with clocks like when a spring goes bounding across the room. 😆 😆
December 19, 2015 at 1:02 pm #63497Hey Bernie, sounds like a good deal for someone starting out, to get a whole package of tools, watches ect…is a blessing in disguise. Will save someone a bunch of time looking for stuff.
If you want to chat….just call, anytime….WilliamDecember 19, 2015 at 3:00 pm #63498Thanks William. I am hoping this will help someone just getting started. I am going to take a few days off and just relax with the grandkids. Been going a 100 mph for the last 3 months. Just need to chill.
December 19, 2015 at 3:09 pm #63499Hey Bernie….sounds like me here but I am having a difficult time going from 100mph to 20mph….I might fall asleep standing here….good time though to recoup, recharge and pay attention to the important things I have run past lately…. Merry Christmas. William
December 19, 2015 at 7:07 pm #63500Merry Christmas and a Happy Healthy New Year William. Definitely time to sit down and kind of evaluate things for sure. Recharge and make sure you have your eye on the prize so to speak. I think as my wife said this could be a blessing taking something off my plate and relieve some tension and stress. Hope so. 😆

December 24, 2015 at 10:43 am #63505Hi Bernie,
I was saddened to hear that you had developed muscle control issues with some of your fingers. If you are able to continue working on clocks and woodworking, that tells me you are still able to work with your hands. That’s great. Keeping away from the smaller stuff like watches was a good call. Working beyond ones physical capabilities is the way a lot of people wind up hurting themselves even more. I’m glad to hear that you still do other things. Keeping family as a priority was another good move. I’m with you buddy, the best to you and yours.
HankDecember 25, 2015 at 12:46 am #63506Thanks Hank. Yes small stuff I just cannot do. Clocks I have learned to work around and of course being bigger makes it easier. Woodworking I don’t have to use fingers as much as my whole hand so now I can finish my grandfather clock I started building about 5 yrs ago but just could never find time to finish it. Of course I am already planning next years garden. So with that and the grandkids I should keep pretty busy. Of course a lot more golf with my buddy (my grandson) and can’t forget our fishing trips. 😆
Anyway thanks again to all. Merry Christmas.
