Hi all,
Just wanted to share my new addition that arrived yesterday with you.
A Waltham 18s PS Bartlett. None running and the crown is an incorrect replacement, so I’m anxious to strip her down and check the heart
Anyone care to venture a guess as to what the cause of failure is, just for fun

January 30, 2014 at 3:06 pm #55543It is hard to tell without being able to zoom in and I do like to miss the obvious so…broken balance staff?
January 30, 2014 at 3:25 pm #55544😆 That’s what I suspected Paul, 9 times out of 10 it is, but alas, another pleasant surprise, a mere broken winding stem & mainspring, except the old stem is stuck inside the gear 👿 I just love trying to drill those out!!
I’d love to have a word in the pearl like ear of the animal that used that much force… MUST WIND HARDER 😆

January 30, 2014 at 4:12 pm #55545You should see some of the twisted clock barrel arbors I have seen, they must wind their clocks up with 2 metre extension bar welded to the clock key! 😯
January 30, 2014 at 4:18 pm #55546Im going to guess its the mainspring and a broken winding stem.
January 30, 2014 at 4:48 pm #55547I think you could have something there William! 😆
