I have just finished restoring my first Hermle Chime clock(1051-030 Triple Chime) using the Hermle Course. What a great course Bob. Everything seems good except for one problem. I can’t get the chime to start on the quarter hours. I’ve moved the minute hand back several times but the chiming always starts 5 minutes late. Example: 12:05, 12:20, 12:35, 12:50. What am I missing?
Congrats on your first clock repair Gary. May you have many more to come. The minute hand on the clocks fit on a square shaft. The bushing in the minute hand can be turned using either a special square driver (don’t waste your money on that!) or a pair of needle nose pliers that are serrated for grip. Take the hand off and look at the back side. you can grab the bushing (either round or hex) with you needle nose pliers and gently rotate the hand the direction you want. This may take a few tries to get it spot on but that’s how to sync the hand with the chime.
