I am working on a Benrus watch, AS 1300 movement. The balance stud screw is loose in the balance cock. I purchased 1gross of balance stud screws, however they all seem to be the same diameter or smaller. Is there technique to tighten the hole? I was thinking of a little shellac on the screw, or maybe a little VibraTite to take up some of the space. I also thought I might use a flat stake to compress the balance cock slightly. Keeping in mind –Do no harm!
The hole threads “look like” they are intact.

        Demewill,
Pick a screw out of the spares that matches the original and be certain that it is the correct screw for the hole. Slightly mash some of the threads near the head (back) of the screw leaving the threads at the tip untouched. This will allow the screw to start in the hole. That should be enough to jam the threads enough to hold the screw in but not damage the cock.
