All:
I got the new balance staff for the Elgin 18s discussed in the older post. I put a micrometer on it and here are the results.
(Recap) Calculated length to the underside of the top and bottom cap jewels = 0.247”
(Recap) Old pivot-to-pivot length=0.2315”
New balance staff length = 0.2400″
Thus, there is a 0.007″ difference between the calculated length and the new balance staff length. (I have a hard time believing that my calculations are that close – except by coincidence that is)
I’ll re-post once I get the new one in – hopefully, this will actually prove to be be the cause of the problem.
