Hey, Bob. great observation. I had looked real close at the bob but I didn’t think about it being upside down.
What I did observe is the larger slot is to let the brass square stock go into the bob on top and the smaller slot is so the stock won’t go all the way thru. I did try the nut in the larger slot but it doesn’t fit. Good thought.
The bob actually has 2 half moon lead pieces, one on the right side of the rod and one on the left.

Yeah, that suspension spring has definitely been changed. It looks like it’s longer than the original. If you look back at those pics of the spring, do you see where the pin is now I think the repairer drilled that hole to fit the longer spring? I believe the empty hole is the original. I could be wrong.
I gave the dimensions of the spring. @disciple_dan wrote:

The spring is 0.002″ thick, 0.330″ Long, and 0.155″ wide

I don’t see how you could make it much thinner but what about narrower? What if I found ( or made) a shorter and narrower spring? I could drop that width from 0.155″ Just a thought. Thanks, Danny

        Hi Danny,
I didn’t see Bernies post mentioning going with a thinner spring. I know .002 seems thin but Bernie is right, you can go much thinner. Even .001 isn’t too thin. Hermle actually uses about this thickness (.001) and I would definitely try going that route to see if things improve.
Looking at your bob again it sure looks like the cutout at the top is wider than it needs to be. I’ll post a few pics of one showing it flipped over. You’ll also see the nut and how it goes up and into the slot. My feeling is that the nut on yours was something that someone in the past added. If it has a double slot then it most likely used a nut that fits up inside allowing the bob to drop down further. You may need to fabricate a knurled nut that will work with your bob. I would try both what Bernie suggests and also using a nut that fits properly and see how things go.
Here’s the pics. The bob has been flipped over in the two pics (black tape for reference). Also look at the nut and how it fits the one slot only. This bob also has the split weights with side to side config. so wouldn’t make much difference if any at all flipping it over except for the nut fitting.
NOTE: Wider slot is for the nut on this bob and fit between rod and slot sides (at top in second pic) appears to be a much closer fit than the one on your clock. So yes it’s possible that you have the wrong bob but I would try both above suggestions so you’ll know one way or the other.

        Hope this helps
        Bob
