Rack & Snail Question

I got my Seth Thomas movement going, but after installing the hammers for the chime it is not working right. I have the book Striking Clock Repair Guide. If I understand it right, I have to make adjustments to the rack & snail to get it to chime right? You can’t just put it together and expect it to work, correct?

David, I think we would need to know exactly what you mean by the chime is not working right, before getting to the rack and snail and yes that can be one of the adjustments depending on the issue. Good book to have by the way….William

First you must get the chime side to work properly and in the proper sequence because that is what trips the rack and the strike sequence starts. If that is not working properly then the strike side (rack and snail) will be off. Yes the rack and snail have to be adjusted properly but need more info on what is happening.
