Putting a Pocket Watch in Beat

I have viewed the Watch Course and did not find any info regarding putting a watch in beat. Video 3 parts 1 & 2 show cleaning the balance wheel with the hairspring attached. If this is done do I still need to put the watch in beat? The videos don’t specifically address putting the watch in beat. I am ready to disassemble my first movement, clean it and reassemble it but putting the watch in beat seems like it would be an important step.

Yes, it’s a very important step to learn but not usually necessary when assembling a watch after cleaning if the balance was in beat before removing it. You’ll find beat setting covered in the Staffing video #4. When you start the video take a look in the Quick Navigation window in the video control panel and click on “Set Beat” and that will take you straight to it.
