      Is this an optical comparator? The seller doesn’t seem to know.

        I have never seen anything like this before and am at a loss. I have looked through vintage optical comparator images on google but this does not look any thing like what it was bringing up.

          That makes two of us, it isn’t like the more “modern” ones I’ve seen where both items are kinda superimposed for size.

          This one looks like a magnified slide rule…

            A very wild guess would be a 19th century version of a staging microscope but who knows?

              Tom,
              Take a look at Ebay item #121346793337. That can magnify a small watch part to over one foot in size. The micrometers read directly in 1/10,000 of an inch and move the actual part across the screen.
