You are absolutely right about the dangers involved in these powerful machines. I have been blessed through out my career. I still have all the parts the good Lord gave me. I believe that the danger is not so much in the machine as it is in the lax of safety practices. I always hated to train apprentices simply because of the importance of good safety habits. The table saw becomes the most dangers because the first thing a seasoned carpenter does is to do away with the pinch guard and chip shield, simply because a board being ripped always bind and cause a burn on the edge and the chip guard restricts line of sight. As you can guess my saws has none of the above. I have had wood come out of the wood lathe enough times that, I am leery when it comes to the metal lathe. I am trying real hard to develop good habits with it. I worked in a machine shop for a while years ago, and saw a guy catch his hair in a lathe(not a pretty site), I make sure I have a hat on when I am turning 😆 Mahlon

Hi, I’m Kay…….Mahlon’s wife. Mahlon has talked often of you all. I just wanted to let you know that Mahlon died late Friday night of an (apparent) heart attack. May 16th . I feel convicted to let you all know just how much he enjoyed this site and the new friends he made here. You’ve added a lot to his enjoyment of working on clocks. So, with a sad and heavy heart I’ll say his good-byes. God Bless each and every one of you, may His face shine upon you always.

Kay, never personally meeting Mahlon I feel a great loss and sadness and I believe it must be because of the way he was kind and giving to all of us, he seemed unselfish and gentle in spirit (always kind words), we had a common background in woodworking and it sounded like our faith also, he must have been a wonderful man in all he did. For you Kay, I pray the Lord bless you and keep you, the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you, the Lord lift up His countenance on you and give you peace, that God will comfort you as a loving father can in your time of sorrow. I will miss Mahlon, love, William

                    Kay,
I am stunned and deeply saddened by this news. I know this was extremely difficult for you to post up here and I cannot begin to tell you how much it means to me that you let us know.

When things got a bit discouraging we could always count on Mahlon to be there for us with words of encouragement as well as any help he could offer. His compassion and contagious enthusiasm was appreciated by his many friends up here and will always be remembered.

Mahlon made a difference and we are a closer group of friends because of him. I will miss him.
My heart is with you Kay

Kay, if you’re still logged on this site, I am with you in your prayers. Mahlon was a special Brother to me also. I know he’s with Jesus now.

I wanted to let you know that I did receive the tools package he had said he’d send to me. I got it today. I do appreciate you taking the time to do that for him. If there is any of his tools that you want to sell, let me know and I’ll see if I can buy them from you. My email is [email protected]
