K and d mainspring winder

Quick question, I have a k and d winder and I cant figure out how to use it, is there suppost to be a slit in the winding part for the mainspring to attach to to wind because there isnt on. I cant figure out what the mainspring attaches to on the winding part to get it to wind, thanks
