Will someone help me out a minute?
I have a Hubert Herr movement that works fine at both trains, the problem is the hands don’t move. The first picture is the minute and hour arbors. This movement also has a minute cannon. The minute cam is not pressed on to the minute arbor like I have normally seen. It is on a brass tube that fits over the steel minute arbor and then the hour cannon slides onto that tube.
I’m thinking the minute cam has to be connected to the minute arbor so that it will turn to do all the necessary lifting of the levers.
I thought it might be that the hands were used but that didn’t seem to work out either.
Any ideas?

The 2 nuts have to sandwich the hand, the 2 will then become one….so to speak

Well, I thought that too but how do you tighten them after you have the movement in the case? I tried that but I couldn’t stop the minute tube from spinning while I tightened the nut on the inner tube. The hour cannon won’t turn the that inner minute tube will. I don’t see how to do that. I can do that when it is in my hand but it I turn the minute hand counterclockwise it will loosen and then not move with the minute arbor. Am I missing something?

Hey, William. If you are positive that is the way this clock is designed, I will find a way to get it tight enough to stay there. Let me know will you? Thanks.

William, I hope I didn’t offend you in that last post when I ask if you were positive. Right after I posted it I thought to myself, you idiot, of course, he is positive, he wouldn;t have said it if he wasn’t. I tried to delete the post but I couldn’t find how.
Anyway, I have the clock on the stand keeping time so far. One thing, though. How do you hold lifting cam while you are tightening the hand nut? You probably don’t want to know how I did but I got it done and it’s working.

Hey Danny, no offense taken here. Usually that “lifting cam pipe” has a square on the end where the threads are and I just realized what your issue may be….the minute hand would also have a square mounting hole so you can set the depth with the first nut, holding the minute hand keeps it from spinning and then sandwich it all together with the center arbor nut. A set-up like this allows adjustment for the synchronization with a square minute hand hole and the center cam dropping the lifting piece for the strike….hope that makes sense.

Yes, That does clear up a lot, thank you. One of the problems I had was that the nut that fits on the square end of the tube would start on with ease but when it’s last thread got to the first thread on the square tube, it would bind and then turn inside the hour cannon. I had no way to stop it from turning. I couldn’t use the minute hand because it goes on after that nut. I had to use a small screwdriver to jam the gears until I could get past the binding. That will probably offend most of you and if I had it to do over I would figure out another way. 😳
Another thing, If I hear changes in the tick tock it is most likely the teeth on the escape wheel. Is that a good assumption?
Also, the cuckoo is about 3 minutes late in the hour and the half hour. The only way I can see to change that would be to bend the tab on the lifting lever down just a bit so that the lifting cam will lift it just a little sooner. Any ideas?
