Working on the Elgin 6S and I notice that the hairspring regulator is rather loose. It seems to be friction fit around the jewel setting.
I remember a while back when I removed one of these regulators and I couldn’t get it back on!Any advice on removal/replacement technique as well as some tips on how to tighten???
Thanks!
Stu

With older watches, during their lifetime, they could have parts replaced, sometimes the incorrect or close fit parts are used, so to safely and effectively answer your question, a photo of the part in question is always helpful, without a visual aid, we’re just guessing/assuming that it has the correct parts… If you could snap a pic and post it here, that would be great…
If you need any assistance with taking or posting photos on the forum, please refer to the pinned link at the top of the General forum… How To Take and Post Photos..
You can also use your mobile phone camera while holding your loupe over the lens for a close up effect…

You can see the little cut in the regulator, I made a small wedge from a piece of brass, so as not to scratch, i insert the wedge in the split and gently twist until it separates and raises, then I use pegwood to ease it off..
Is it me or does the regulator seem too long as it over rides the register?? Aren’t they usually just on the slash marks?
Can you provide the serial number, maybe I can find a reference to it, I know, I’m a pain 😆

March 22, 2015 at 3:29 pm #62233It looks to be the correct regulator. How loose is it, flopping around or just easy to move? Could it be wear, is it seated properly on the ring, it should snap into place..
March 22, 2015 at 7:21 pm #62234Not flopping around but very easy to move — too easy. Probably just wear – not sure if there’s much I can do about it.
