      Hello, All,

This is my first post. But I’m afraid not a very interesting one.
I have a Seth Thomas ships clock and I don’t know how to set the chimes. Can anyone help?

        Welcome to the forum Taro26!
I find ships clocks very interesting!
I’m not too sure if you’re asking though about the 8 bell chime sequence or if you have the movement apart and would like to set up the striking for 8 bell.

If you’re just interested in how the 8 bell strike should correlate with the hands then you would set the hands so that at one bell it would be half past 12, 4, or 8 o’clock. Two strikes at 1, 5 or 9 o’clock. Three bells at 1:30, 5:30 and 9:30. Four bells at 2, 6 and 10 o’clock. Five bells at 2:30, 6:30 and 10:30. Six at 3, 7, 11. Seven at 3:30, 7:30 and 11:30. 8 bells at 4, 8 and 12 signifying change every four hours of onboard watch duty.

Hope this helps Taro and again Welcome

        Bob
