Thanks for the advice Chris,
the dial now looks not too bad after careful cleaning. The numerals are just black outlines on white which I kind of like

I will go hunting for hands, the hour and minute wheel pipes are rather big 2.75 and 1.70 mm bigger than what is available at Cousins but I might be able to adapt them.Jan
February 5, 2015 at 6:54 am #61581Yeah, they do look kinda nice with just the outline.. And yes, it’s always easier to enlarge the new hands.. Good deal Jan.
I was thinking that I might have some Roskopf hands left over in my odd hands bin, I’ll have a little check later, if you could post the lengths of both, from the center of the pipe to the minute markers, and also to the hour numerals, I can measure, if I have any..
Usually, I’d have a watch with one or the other missing/broken, so I’d just save them.. Maybe I still have a set?If you decide to re-paste the hands, a method that worked for me was… I would mix up a little luminescent paste, then push the reverse of the hand into the mixture, allowing it to ooze through to the front, just a little. When it dries, it’s easier to scrape off the excess, and cleaning up the reverse doesn’t have to be so detailed, as you don’t see it..
February 6, 2015 at 12:54 am #61582Chris,
the distance between the center and the minute markers is 19 mm and I have 13 mm from center to the bottom of the numerals.
Thanks for looking

One of the Gray & Son’s videos shows a watch restoration of a wristwatch with radium numbers on the dial. The watch was old and the radioactive material, over time, burned into the face of the watch dial. You may want to take a look at the video before deciding to tear into a radioactive watch.
davidFebruary 6, 2015 at 11:01 pm #61584Thanks for the advice David, but all the radioactive material has already been removed. I hope I took enough precautions to handle it safely

JanJan, if you notice sudden hair loss, the ability to see clearly in the dark, and an inexplainable craving for milk…. then NO 😆
I just got through searching through a pile of old hands and I think I had everything but the military glow worm styles. Sorry buddy, back to the drawing board 😥 Suddenly I fancy a glass of cream?
February 7, 2015 at 10:56 pm #61586Chris,
thanks anyway for looking.
By the way how is your night vision?
