Greetings fellow forum members. As someone fairly new to watch and clockmaking, I’m looking forward to sharing my thoughts and learning from each of you.

Bob, I started watching your videos, especially how strike trains operate–thank you! I’m hoping to get beyond the difficulty of strike/chime mechanics.

Hey Steve, welcome, Learning the strike and chime configurations, adjustments and setup will help you out tremendously in the future. As you say they can be difficult and frustrating. Do you have any movements to experiment / practice with? If you have questions just ask, and by all means have fun with it all. William

Thanks for replying William, and yes, I have a few movements I’m currently experimenting with. I joined NAWCC roughly a year ago and have enjoyed the benefits of membership. Recently, I attended a workshop hosted by the Horological Association of Virginia (HAV). At the workshop, I learned how to disassembled and reassembled my first movement–an Ansonia. Currently, I’m working on a Seth Thomas 89AD. Also, I visited the Horological Association of Maryland (HAM) this past November. While there, I had the opportunity to disassemble and reassemble a watch. I really love this stuff and will certainly ask questions. My dream is to someday gain enough skill in watch and clockmaking to start a small business or work in industry. This would be my retirement stream of income.

I look forward to further discussions!

          Cheers!
