      Hi all

Today my first clock arrived, bought from eBay for £29.95 plus P&P, so I was not expecting too much.  There is no make that I can see on the back brass plate or on the face.  It’s a single wind with pendulum and sight of the pendulum made me suspicious, is it the original or a replacement?  Bear in mind that I have no previous experience. It looks clean, maybe it has just been polished ready to sell as is.  I wonder is the mechanism and it’s case an original match, I do have some doubts.  In any event it will serve as a good introduction in getting my hands dirty and gaining some experience.

I have the basic tools to begin, letdown tool, tweezers, pliers etc, but before dismantling I thought I would let the forum see just what I have got and I would be interested in comments.  Have a look at the photos uploaded and see what you think.

      Many thanks, WilliamIMG_1867IMG_1868IMG_1869IMG_1870IMG_1871IMG_1872

Update!  I have fully dismantled the mechanism, taking photographs of what goes where, and carefully setting out the component parts in order.  Next stage will be to clean the parts and inspect for any damage.

Someone has worked on the mechanism before as I noticed a missing pin.

I think it’s a lovely clock William. Art Deco perhaps ?  The Pontife hands were popular then. They are somewhat rare in watches though..I sold an Omega awhile back that had them. Very distinct.

Best of luck…sounds like you are having fun !

Thanks Randy, this is all a learning curve.  At least there is just a single train to get working.

            Regards

Well I completely disassembled the works and then reassembled it, so everything back in place.  This was my first attempt and found it to be a great training exercise.  Also useful for seeing how the mechanism works.

I think something is not right here, but I have nothing to check it against.  In the photo you can see the pallet arbor at the top, it is only pivoted at the one end and the other end hangs free with the pallet fork not engaging properly with the escapement wheel.  Secondly I am suspicious about the pendulum, see photo earlier in this thread, I think it may not be the original.

                Would welcome advice.

Some better pictures would probably help, if the anchor is only in one bush and not the other end then either the anchor is wrong one or the pivot has broken off.
