        Steve:

David Pierce bought one like that on eBay not long ago. He should be able to answer any questions you might have.

        Just FYI…

I bought one a few months ago but it is still sitting in the box unused. I have been too busy to try it out. One of the things I would like to try with it is to see if it can successfully weld in a gear tooth. When Maitai put his repair post up showing the missing gear tooth I thought that it would be a perfect job to test the machine on.

That would be interesting David and I will be waiting to see how it works out.

                Bernie,
Me too! It might turn out to be a fantastic way to help replace a gear tooth or it might completely suck. I guess there is only one way to find out. Maitai, let me borrow your watch gear for a couple of days. 😆

                  All:

I saw a bunnspecial YouTube video where he soldered a pocket watch gear tooth back on with plain old plumbers solder and a Burnz-O-Matic propane torch. He was lucky enough to find the tooth in the case, so he didn’t have to fabricate the tooth.

If I stumble across it again, I’ll post a link. It wasn’t germane to the video topic so a standard search might not produce a hit.

                  Later,
                  Tom

This method has been around for a while, I think I first saw it on the tube about 6 yrs ago, someone made an electronic soldering table.
HERE is another guy who you could buy one from, he was offering the plans for free, pretty simple to build and definitely not a $290 cost.. I actually like the wooden box better..

THESE GUYS, the ones in the link Steve provided, have been offering this particular model for a few years. It seems they have decreased their price a tad 😮

This type is great for paper dials where direct flame heat fries the dial..

                      All:

Wouldn’t this do the job and more for less money?

                      Just a thought…

I shouldn’t see why not Tom, it’s the same principle I think, not sure how big this is though but it could surely be modded to work on our micro scale..

There are other types using this system that I see pop up, also for jewelry, some are $45 – $200… I suppose a person could rip out the guts and make a nice enclosure, like that wooden one which seems to tickle my fancy 😮 Can we say that in public… OH it tickled my fancy 😆

                          Chris,

You mean you haven’t bought a case of those things yet? It’s always good to have an extra (dozen or so) on the shelf just in case!

                          :)

                          Tim :)
