Are you guys some kind of hybrid cyborg or something? Seriously, what planet do you all come from? It’s gotta be something like Horologica or something like that…
Making your own pinion. Actually making, from a piece of metal, really and truly MAKING a darned pinion gear. Pardon me while I get up off the floor after being in the prostrate position…It’s a little overwhelming for a noob like me who sees the different kinds of magic you guys do – in this case Ren – but everyone else is talking like it’s making instant soup or something. Come ON!!!
Great job Ren, and nice to meet you – first time, I believe. Love the tinfoil hat. Where’d you buy it?
Best,
Tim
November 9, 2014 at 4:09 pm #60191Hi Tim,
I’ve been following all of your posts Tim and I’m glad that you’ve taken as strong an intrest in watchmaking as you have.
You’re not much more of a “noob” than I, I just happen to have to make all of my tools and stuff so, it’s a little slower going for me. Fortunatly, I have the machine shop which allows me to make some of the tools I need. I’m considering making a staking tool set ala K&D.
There is alot of truth to “necessity being the mother of invention”. Not only that, it’s really cool to be able to follow in others footsteps, or at least try to. Being disabled and pretty much recuperating from a couple of major surgeries this year (my intestines exploded back in January), I don’t have a bunch of money to throw at this incredible learning experience so it’s, move forward slowly and progress a bit at a time.
So, nice to meet you also Tim and as far as the tin foil hat goes, it keeps the crazy people at bay.
November 10, 2014 at 12:47 pm #60192Hi Ren,
I am so sorry about your medical troubles, and I’m also very glad you’re here on this board to share all those “mother of invention” things with the rest of the guys.
Great meeting you, and awesome play on the tinfoil hat

Best,
Tim
