Does anyone have any ideas on how to bevel glass? I’ve come across so many clocks, especially carriage clocks with missing, broken, cracked, scratched or chipped bevelled glass panels or dial glass.
You can send off to have the panels or dials made but it is expensive, often more than the clock is worth.
I’ve been looking around for a small machine that I could buy so that I can bevel my own glass and wondered if anyone on the forum has any advice.

        Hi Brian,
That’s not something I’ve ever tried. I used to use a local glass cutter near me that had a grinding setup. It didn’t cost much at all back then and he usually had it back to me same day. Sure is getting harder to find good craftsmen these days.
Wish I had some helpful info for you.
        Take care over there Brian,
        Bob

I have actually beveled glass myself in my hobby shop. There are a few methods of accomplishing this. The technique that I used involved an inexpensive bench glass grinder. I found mine on EBay for I seem to recall, about $35.00. Take a look for GlasStar grinders on EBay. Basically this is a 12″ X 12″ device with a water bath and a small vertical grinding (diamond stone) in the center. The glass is held against the stone at an angle then ground to the desired amount. After grinding you will need to spend quite a bit of time polishing using pumice powder. Check out HisGlassworks.com http://www.hisglassworks.com/learn/.

This works but after the first one, I decided it was worth buying the glass from my local glass shop and having them bevel it.
