Hey everyone,
I finally got moved into our new home and am getting ready to set up shop again ( yeah !!!!!! ).I threw out my old desk/bench when I moved, as I wanted something better.
I kept the top..figuring I could find another way build one without spending $$$$$$$$$$.
We all know how expensive a decent bench can be.I ran across this blog the other day ..quite by accident.
http://www.dirkfassbender.de/ikea-watchmaker…htmlMaybe I should have posted this to the tools section..but I felt to get it maximum exposure I’d post it here.
The materials to complete this should be in the $350 range and I hope to have it put together sometime next month.
I’ll let you know how it turns out, and I hope this will help some of youBest regards,
Randy

What a fantastic find!
I am very interested also. I hve been looking for another bench for the shop and that will suit my needs perfectly.
I am looking forward to seeing your finished product.
Thanks for posting this up on the forumBest, Dean
March 17, 2019 at 6:03 pm #65048Thanks Dean.
I’m hoping to have it all together in about 3 weeks. Have to travel to get the pieces, clean out the rest of the room, etc. etc.
RandyMarch 30, 2019 at 12:11 pm #65049Well…it’s together !
The units are pretty nice actually. Decent finish and the drawers slide fine. The bottom drawers are tall and deep enough to take a lathe and collect box, as you can see in one of the photos.
Overall height to the working surface is approx 40″.I didn’t use the top the others did, as I like the fact there was some overhang that afforded me room for the lathe clamp, and a vice. I also moved the lower units out a bit more, to give extra legroom in between them.
One thing to note : The shelf unit drawers are only 12 in. deep, and pull about about 5″
The lower drawer units are around 24″ deep, and pull out a lot further. Now all I need is fresh oils and some cleaning solution.
If any of you have questions..fire away
Randy
