I have a ~20 year old Herman Miller with a 3-weight movement (MSU02); it has the ‘off at night’ complication in addition to the normal on/off and different ‘tunes’ switches. Recently it has started missing rings (often but not always), e.g., it will ring ten times at 11:00. What might be causing this?

        Hi Mark,

When I encounter strike errors, it usually has something to do with the rack/gathering pallet. With your Kieninger, it should have a small spring on the lever that the rack clicks into when climbing. (sorry I don’t know the proper name for this lever) I would check that lever for clean movement. Also while you have the face off, cycle the chime a few times and observe the fall and rise of the rack. Best to set the clock to a high strike count so you can see the entire travel of the rack. Look for uneven or sluggish movement especially when it falls onto the snail gear. Could be the rack post needs lubrication. Anyway, that’s where I would start looking for defects. Good luck!

        Mike
