My first encounter for a Herschede grandfather 706 clock. I’m replacing the Chime cable which broke.
Question: in the photo the wind drum has a hole and slot. I assume that I tie a knot in the the cable, insert it into the hole and slide it into the slot and then further wind the drum. Is this correct?

I would expect a crimped bead on the end of the new cable but there is none. I can see that a bead might pull off due to the weight.
