I dont know if you have found any problems where people have used the wrong type of fishing braid, combined with the heavy weights for this type of clock if the wooden pulley wheels dont spin nicely it wouldnt take much for some of the fishing braids to wear grooves in them. Some of these fishing braids have very fine diameters but great strength, these are the ones I would avoid, as long as it has a reasonable diameter you should be ok. I have just bought a couple of packs of “American Clock Chord” From Cousins in the UK. It is quite inexpensive so might be worth checking out if you cant find a suitable braid.
Paul.
