I have a clock that the bushings are a little worn but not too badly, could this cause a clock to be slow by a couple of minutes or would the mainspring be the cause? Also i cant seem to remove the mainspring because the mainspring is rivoted into the barrrl. Any suggestions with changing this out? Thanks

Yes worn bushings can cause a couple of minutes to 5 minutes slow in time. As for the mainspring I have never in 32 yrs of doing clocks seen a mainspring riveted inside. The barrels will have a rivot that the mainspring catches on. If it is riveted in that would be a first for me and would like to see a picture of it. When I take a mainspring out with my winder the mainspring is fully wound and then has a clamp put on it. Once that happens I let the mainspring down, twist the mainspring and it comes right off the rivet. I may be out in left field but don’t think so. Let us know and a pic’s if possible.

I have also never seen this and as Bernie says on some barrels the mainspring hook is rivitted to the wall of the barrel, sometimes the end of the mainspring can be tight on the hook which might give you the impression it is rivetted?
