I ended up having to take a short trip today, so not much time to shop for my parts, but I did find my insulating tape 
So after I got back I spent a relaxing couple of hours patiently wrapping the wires and sanding the connectors, oh the joy 😆
I did the most difficult pair first.. then the easy leads which weren’t worn at all..
