Jewels are actually extremely hard ultra precise bushings. If you are a member of the NAWCC you can go to their download library and watch a documentary of the ELGIN WATCH COMPANY manufacturing precision watch jewels from scratch. It may also be on Youtube but I have not checked to see if it is therel
